Freesat
Freesat is a completely free service and the satellite dish points to the same satellite cluster as Sky. If you're fed up with paying big monthly fees to Sky, or don't watch the premium content, Freesat is a brilliant alternative.In fact, Freesat offers more channels than you’d think, as well as a wide range of digital radio stations including Capital, BBC, Absolute, and many more.
Freeview
Just like Freesat, Freeview is also completely free and uses your existing TV aerial to receive digital TV signals.Again, Freeview is a maturing service and is set to launch HD in time for the 2010 world cup. However, this means that any television with built-in Freeview will not receive HD signals - you will need to purchase a new HD capable set top box.
This is where HomeSonica can help! When the technology becomes available, we will simply install a Freeview HD tuner into your Hathor server and you will be watching and recording HD programs in any room in no time!
Sky
Although we are not directly in competition with Sky (they sell content and we sell a distribution method), their highly restrictive policies with encryption and subscription cards make it difficult for anyone to integrate with their system.However, with a HomeSonica system it is possible to operate both systems in tandem. We will relocate your Sky set-top boxes adjacent to our TV server, and with the aid of wireless transmitters and receivers, the Sky signal can be beamed to any TV in your home. However, many people downgrade their Sky package to a basic one into only the main TV/Cinema room as our HomeSonica system is perfect for everything else.
We also supply a Logitech Harmony remote control which can be programmed to replace your Sky remote, and it’s the only remote you’ll need for all your audio/visual equipment. Your experience with Sky would remain exactly as it was, but without having the set top boxes on display, meaning less wires around the home too!
Because Sky and Freesat use the same satellites, you would still be able to view and record Freesat channels on your HomeSonica system. One press of a button on the remote control would switch between Sky and Freesat whenever you like.
Sky subscribers also have access to the online Skyplayer, which is a web-based alternative (much like BBC iPlayer) and does not require a set top box. This means you CAN view your subscribed Sky channels on any HomeSonica Atum box.
